That's direct from Canon. The original 1Dd clear through the 1DIV were 1.3 crop sensors. Not full frame.

APS-H‘s 1.3 crop is not really needed, RF telezooms have longer reach than EF predecessors. And slight crop on R3’s 24MP is still bigger than 1Div’s 16MP.
