A wireless microphone has been registered with the authorities by Canon. So it would appear that Canon will be releasing a wireless microphone set for the RF system. I would presume it would be similar to the Sony ECMW2BT, only better, because it’s Canon. This would certainly be useful so it will be nice to

It would be nice for me too, but my guess is we should try to find more reasons to use video and learn it well.
It would help if I remembered to plug in an actual microphone, that makes audio many times better already.

I wish there was an affordable (€100-€200) variant of the Sennheiser MKE 200 that uses the newfangled smart shoe. No more futzing around with cables and flaps!

I think the R5 having the old shoe really killed the market motivation for third party mics and other accessories that could utilize the multi-function shoe.

If they really want to compete with DJI and Røde on their small wireless mics they really need 32bit float
No, not really. If they bring a mic without a huge RØDE logo in bright white font I'm buying. I expect the new mic to work flawless with the R5mkII and as long as I can finetune the settings I don't need 32bit. Of course, It would be great to have a 32bit option.

It's not exactly what you want but I had an older version of something like "Zoom H4essential" and the audio quality was very good for the money. The only drawback is you'll have to sinc the audio to the video, but it's not too difficult.

Those aren't cameras, those are the wireless mic/receiver. See the gallery images related to this thread. The DS number has one too many digits to be a camera.
I was REALLY hoping for a Shotgun microphone from Canon like the Sony ECM-B1M.

Is there any chance that Canon will also release a mic like this? If the hotshoe supports audio input, I hope to see a shotgun mic like the Sony ECM-B1M from Canon. SOONER rather than later! Any info on that?

Is there a chance that we'll see a shotgun mic and NOT ONLY a receiver for a wireless mic? Something like the Sony ECM-B1M would be AMAZING! No need for any 3,5mm audio jack but all digital audio through the hotshoe.

Why would Canon only release a wireless mic (receiver + mic attached to someone's shirt)... Please give us a shotgun mic for general video recording like the Sony ECM-B1M!! Please Canon!

You mean like the Canon DM-E1D Stereo Microphone that works with the multifunction shoe and has been out for a couple of years? Or is the Sony one special somehow?

Yes, but the Canon DM-E1D ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!

It's really bad. The signal to noise ratio is horrible. And it only goes up to 10kHZ!!!! which is terrible. You'd expect 20kHZ in any half-decent shotgun mic.

So yes, this is generally what I was talking about. But a good version of it.

I have the DM-E1D mic and bought it even though I watched the video above and haven't been sorry about the purchase at all. It's mounted almost permantly on my R6 MK II. If you want to drastically improve your audio quality for occasional video shooting compared to the built in mic, especially for catching that certain moment e.g. with children it's great as it always works. No on switch, no, cables, no batteries. I also have a Sennheiser MKE440 which I bought before the DM-E1D was released. For sure the MKE440 is a better sound quality microphone especially for catching ambient sound and it indeed has noticeably better dynamic range and lower noise levels. But I have a number of videos where I forgot to turn it on. The convenience is such that I haven't really used the MKE440 since I got the DM-E1D.

I am definitely looking forward to this receiver option given how much I like the operation of my DM-E1D.
