We need a new pancake RF 40 mm 2.8!

Hello people,

With all the small cameras hype, Canon just need to release a new Canon RF 40mm 2.8 pancake or even 2.0! It will just BOOM the Fuji and Ricoh market. Even Nikon just did it, why they are not doing it?? The EF was awesome but it's discontinued for a LONG time and with and without adapter it would be even better. RF 28 mm is amazing but just too wide for street and portraits, etc. At least 35 or 40 mm needed.

Yes I´d love to see one too. My R8 is practically screaming for a pancake lens, but 28mm just isn´t very attractive to me. I often feel like the 35mm is a tuch too wide for my tastes.

I'd buy one. I've always loved pancake lenses, even though I don't use them a lot. Part of their appeal is the cost. With Canon lenses being so expensive these days, it's very satisfying to buy a cheap one.

At 40mm it likely won't be a pancake lens. Pancake lenses tend to very close to the flange distance, so a 22mm flange distance for RF gave us the 28mm.

Compression and 'wide angle' distortion are a function of distance to subject, not physical focal length.
What you do get in crop mode or a smaller sensor is less shallow depth of field when taking a photo with the same framing.

Looks a killer combo in fact! But I don't have to buy an APS-C to buy a RF 28 2.8 pancake.

1. The Nikon 40mm is not a true pancake lens.
2. The Canon 28mm is superb. I can't recommend it enough.
3. The 50mm + 28mm combination feels really cool on the Canon R8. The old 40mm pancake was too close to 50mm, but 28mm + 50mm is a great combo. This way, you cover street photography, environmental portraiture, and general portraiture. You even get decent background separation with the 50mm f/1.8, and it has a very sharp center, allowing you to crop up to 70mm easily. Nikon doesn't have lightweight 50f1.8; even Chineese third-party lenses like Viltrox are big and heavy.
